The Classical Association of Connecticut offers a number of grants to support the study and teaching of the Classics in Connecticut: ClassConn offers grants for conference tuition and travel expenses (to ACL conferences, the CANE summer institute, and APA or AIA conferences, for example) under its John Carter Williams Endowment program. From $50 to $300 for classroom supplies, projects and field trips is available under ClassConn’s discretionary grant program. To apply for a grant, email ClassConn Treasurer Stephen Pingree at magisterp@charter.net. The ACL also offers scholarship money for teaching supplies. Both the American Classical League (ACL) and the Classical Association of New England (CANE) offer scholarships for summer study abroad. CANE offers two scholarships, one specifically aimed at summer study at the American Academy in Rome; the second can be used for study at the American School at Athens or institutes other than at Rome. The ACL scholarship is not geared to a specific program. More information can be found on their websites. ACL applications are due January 15 and CANE applications Feb. 1. For teachers with fewer than 10 years teaching experience who want to study or travel in Greece or Italy, CANE also offers the biannual Renata Poggioli award. Applications are due Feb. 1.
